Alondra G. Urrutia Santiago

My interests lie in the fields of microbiology, virology, and parasitology. I am currently working on the project “Tracking Abundance and Diversity of Marine Cyanophages Over Time in Coastal Waters of Puerto Rico,” where I assess temporal changes in cyanophage abundance and diversity. Specifically, for this project, I am interested in understanding how cyanophages, viruses that infect cyanobacteria, affect the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of marine ecosystems, with a special focus on the coastal waters of Puerto Rico, particularly in Mayagüez Bay and the La Parguera Natural Reserve. In the future, I plan to pursue a master’s or PhD in these areas of study.
