I am interested in the role of Endozoicomonas, a prevalent and abundant bacterial associate in corals, and its significance within the coral holobiont. Endozoicomonas are known to contribute to coral health, resilience, and overall function within the microbiome. My project will focus on the diversity and prevalence of Endozoicomonas in scleractinian coral species within La Parguera, southwest Puerto Rico. By studying these bacterial associates, I aim to deepen our understanding of the role Endozoicomonas plays in coral health and stability, especially under environmental stressors such as rising temperatures and pollution. Through this study, the goal is to uncover patterns that may reveal how Endozoicomonas contribute to the adaptability of coral reefs.
